What are the specifications for the use of cable clamps?

2025-07-15

As a key accessory for fixing cables, the standard use of cable clamps directly affects the stability and service life of the line. Details must be controlled throughout the process from selection, installation to maintenance.

Cable Clips

The selection must match the cable specifications and environment. Select the corresponding model according to the cable diameter. The clamping range must be 0.5 to 1 mm larger than the outer diameter of the cable. If it is too tight, it is easy to damage the insulation layer, and if it is too loose, it will not play a fixing role. For outdoor use, UV-resistant materials such as reinforced nylon or stainless steel must be selected to avoid aging caused by long-term sun exposure; galvanized steel materials are preferred in humid environments to prevent rust from affecting load-bearing.

Pretreatment must be done before installation. Clean the installation surface of debris to ensure that it is flat and dry. When installing on the wall or ground, first mark the punching position with a marker pen, and keep the spacing between 30 to 50 cm to ensure uniform force. If there is oil on the surface of the cable, wipe it clean to avoid slippage after clamping. When multiple cables are in parallel, they must be arranged in layers according to diameter to avoid cross-extrusion.

Pay attention to force control during the installation process. A torque wrench is required when tightening the screws. The torque of nylon cable clamps is controlled at 15 to 20 Nm, and that of metal can be increased to 25 to 30 Nm to prevent excessive force from causing cracking of accessories. Cable clamps for exposed lines must be kept at a distance of more than 30 cm from the ground. When concealed, they must be kept away from heat sources and at least 50 cm from heating elements such as radiators.

Daily maintenance cannot be ignored. Check the clamping status once a quarter, and reinforce it in time if it is loose. Outdoor products need to clean the surface dust and corrosion. If the cable is locally heated, replace the high-temperature resistant cable clamp to avoid safety hazards caused by melting of the insulation layer.

Standardized use of cable clamps can reduce the line failure rate, especially in complex environments such as industrial workshops and high-rise buildings. It can effectively prevent short circuits or wear caused by cable shaking, and provide basic guarantees for the stable operation of power and communication systems.
